Bogotá City Hall joins the UN Women campaign HeForShe

The mayor Enrique Peñalosa with 6 Distric Secretaries, will assume a commitment in defense of the rigths of women.

Date:

On Wednesday September 14 will take place in the Hall Huitaca a formal ceremony in which the Mayor Enrique Penalosa, with his Cabinet of Secretaries, will formally adhere to HeForShe, UN Women global campaign.

HeForShe is a global movement to engage men in the defense of women's rights and gender equality. The campaign was launched in 2014 and counts as spokeswoman with the actress Emma Watson. So far, many personalities from the world of politics, the private sector, academic institutions and artists from around the world have joined the initiative, making visible concrete commitments to gender equality. In Colombia, more than 4600 men have committed to HeForShe.

With this formal adhesion, Bogotá adds to other three cities in Latin America (México, Quito and Montevideo), that have made visible his commitment with HeForShe, taking concrete commitments in his government plan to guarantee the rigths of women.

Some of the commitments the Mayor and the Secretaries assume publicly are related to ensure that in Bogotá there is zero tolerated institutional violence against women; men participate  daily one more hour in care work and parenthood is postponed until 25 years.

The event will be attended by the Presidential Adviser on Equality of Women, Ms. Martha Ordóñez, the District Department of Women, Ms. Cristina Velez and UN Women Representative in Colombia, Ms. Belen Sanz
