“SDGs and Her” Awards Ceremony: Women Micro-Entrepreneurs Helping to Achieve the SDGs
The World Bank Group, in partnership with UNDP, UN Women, and the Wharton School Zicklin Center, is hosting an event to celebrate the 2018 winners of the "SDGs and Her" competition for women micro-entrepreneurs whose businesses help achieve the SDGs. The event features the two global winners: Tanzania-based WomenChoice Industries owned by Lucy Odiwa; and Mukuru Clean Stoves of Kenya, owned by Charlot Magayi. The winners were selected from a pool of over 1,200 contenders from 88 countries through a rigorous three-stage judging process. Partner organizations, representatives of UN Member States, and gender activists are participating at the event. SDGs and Her is an online competition for women entrepreneurs who support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through their business operations. More info can be found here. As part of UN Women’s efforts to engage men and boys in support of gender equality, the HeForShe IMPACT Summit is convening world leaders, global CEOs, activists and celebrities to introduce groundbreaking solutions to achieve gender equality around the world. Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) Pledging Event
This event aims to accelerate the pace towards achieving equal pay for work of equal value, aligning with SDG 8.5 and SDG 5. One year after the launch of EPIC, global leaders, including Heads of State, CEOs of multinational companies, Heads of employers’ and workers’ organizations, and representatives of renowned universities and civil society organizations are coming together to publicly demonstrate their commitment to work together under the EPIC umbrella by making a pledge. The Security Council and Women, Peace and Security (WPS): Fostering Practical Action
Co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Germany, Spain and Namibia, in collaboration with UN Women, this is a high-level event of the WPS Focal Points Network, which aims to strengthen women’s role in conflict prevention, women’s meaningful participation in peace processes and their protection from sexual and gender-based violence. In two years’ time, the historic UN Security Council resolution 1325 on WPS marks its 20th anniversary, yet the WPS agenda still faces significant gaps and its normative framework needs to be developed further. The event features a discussion about the practical steps necessary to overcome shortcomings, such as the limited inclusion of women in peace negotiations. Global Business and Philanthropy Leaders’ SDG-5 Forum for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment
This high-level Forum will convene business and philanthropy leaders from around the world who are committed to advancing gender equality for women and girls. Business and philanthropy leaders are convening to pledge financial support and discuss how collective action from the public and private sectors can help to accelerate Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals, on women's empowerment and equality.

Spotlight on Femicide in Latin America
The European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) are announcing a EUR 50 million investment to end femicide—when a woman or girl is killed because of her gender—in Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. Latin America is home to 14 of the 25 countries with the highest rates of femicide in the world, and 12 women and girls in the region are killed every day because of their gender. The high-level event highlights interventions from world leaders, civil society activists and celebrities including the Heads of State of the five focus countries, Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General, UN; Federica Mogherini, High Representative, EU; Neven Mimica, Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, EU; Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director, UN Women; and Cecilia Suárez, Mexican Ariel Awardee and Emmy International nominated actress. The Spotlight Initiative is a global, multi-year partnership between the EU and the UN to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. Launched with an overall commitment of EUR 500 million from the EU, the initiative represents an unprecedented global effort to invest in gender equality and women’s empowerment as a precondition and driver for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Accelerating the Women’s Movement for Peace and Humanitarian Action: Innovating & Challenging the Status Quo

Promoting Gender-Responsive Migration Governance through the Global Compact for Migration
Co-organized by Permanent Missions of Liechtenstein, Mexico, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and UN Women. This high-level event aims to mobilize support from Member States for gender-responsive implementation of the Global Compact for Migration that contributes to achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all migrant women and girls. With half of the estimated 260 million migrants worldwide being women, it is critical that the implementation of the Global Compact effectively includes their voices and addresses their needs and priorities.
