Local Care Agenda in Latin America and The Caribbean

The document "Local Care Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean" was developed within the framework of the program "Transforming Economies: Towards the Recognition, Reduction, and Redistribution of Unpaid Domestic and Care Work in Latin America and the Caribbean," implemented by UN Women with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

This document provides a theoretical framework for developing a local care agenda and proposes a roadmap for designing and implementing comprehensive care systems at the local level. It focuses on policies, resources, infrastructure, and citizen participation, with a particular emphasis on governance and cultural transformation. In this context, it underscores the importance of an intersectional and human rights–based approach to promoting a new social organization of care that is more just and equitable.

The document aims to serve as a useful public policy instrument for subnational and municipal institutions, supporting a comprehensive approach to improving people's quality of life and promoting a social organization of care grounded in social and gender co-responsibility.
