The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Regional Gender Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean | Gender indicators up to 2024

Latin America and the Caribbean have made remarkable efforts to achieve gender equality. To consolidate progress and fulfill the commitments made, the region must accelerate the pace toward substantive equality and the full realization of the rights of all women and girls.

This document analyzes gender indicators for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, in alignment with the Regional Gender Agenda stemming from the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean. It focuses particularly on SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 17.

The region faces challenges in achieving more productive, inclusive, and sustainable development, and progress toward the SDGs is, in most cases, too slow or insufficient. Efforts must be accelerated to overcome the four structural knots of gender inequality:
i) socioeconomic inequality and the persistence of poverty;
ii) patriarchal, discriminatory, and violent cultural patterns and the predominance of a culture of privilege;
iii) the sexual division of labor and the unfair social organization of care; and
iv) the concentration of power and hierarchical relations in the public sphere.
