Bridging the Leadership Gap: Women in Local and Regional Governments in Latin America

As part of the “Women in Politics” initiative of Global Women Leaders Voices (GWL Voices), the report Bridging the Leadership Gap: Women in Local and Regional Governments in Latin America examines women’s participation and leadership in local and regional governments across the region, with a focus on the barriers and challenges they face in holding subnational executive positions. The research, led by GWL Voices in collaboration with United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and UN Women, is based on quantitative and qualitative evidence from six countries—Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Panama—and puts forward policy-relevant recommendations to advance parity and the full and effective participation of women in politics.
