Women’s Participation and Leadership in the Digital Transformation of the Americas. An Agenda for Action.

The regional document “Women’s Participation and Leadership in the Digital Transformation of the Americas. An Agenda for Action” addresses the challenges and opportunities to ensure women’s participation and leadership in the decision-making processes that shape digital transformation in the region. The document examines the structural barriers women face throughout their trajectories and underscores the importance of strengthening women’s leadership as an indispensable condition for advancing toward an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable digitalization. It also puts forward action-oriented recommendations, highlighting the role of gender-responsive public policies, data generation, parity measures and other affirmative actions, as well as interinstitutional and multi-stakeholder alliances to promote women’s full participation in this transition. 

This publication by the Inter-American Task Force on Women’s Leadership is framed within regional efforts to strengthen digital transformation in the Americas, including the commitments undertaken by Heads of State and Government in the Regional Agenda for Digital Transformation, adopted at the Ninth Summit of the Americas (Los Angeles, 2022).

About the Inter-American Task Force on Women’s Leadership: During the VIII Summit of the Americas (Peru, April 2018), the Member States approved the creation of the Inter-American Task Force on Women’s Leadership, with the aim of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment through greater cooperation and synergies. The Task Force is composed of inter-American and international institutions with recognized expertise in areas related to leadership, political participation and women’s empowerment: the Organization of American States through the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM/OAS) and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR/OAS); the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC); the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO); ParlAmericas; the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women); CAF-Development Bank of Latin America; and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), together with two civil society organizations: Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) and the Latin American and Caribbean Committee for the Defense of Women’s Rights (CLADEM).
