Women in Ecuador have stayed in the páramo, an ecosystem in the Andes, despite the threats that desertification, overgrazing and other human activities pose to their sustenance. With funding from the Municipality of Madrid, UN Women is working with the Azuay provincial government to improve the resilience of communities in Azuay province through a comprehensive intervention that includes women-led sustainable agricultural production. The project is also dismantling gender stereotypes and empowering women to contribute to decision-making processes in their communities.

UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngucka and Jesús Manuel Gracia Aldaz, Spain’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America, signed a Strategic Partnership Framework in New York on 29 September to strengthen collaboration in promoting women’s rights and gender equality.

Valencia Club de Fútbol (CF) and UN Women announced their partnership in support of UN Women’s mandate to promote and support gender equality across the globe. For the first time ever, UN Women will collaborate with a professional sports team. The organization’s logo will be featured on the back of the Valencia CF players’ jerseys when they play in European competitions such as the Champions League
