UN Women launches this call to renew four members of the LAC Civil Society Advisory Group, as well as four reserve candidates.

The Civil Society Advisory Groups are advisory bodies established at the global, regional and national levels to facilitate effective, ongoing and structured consultations between the civil society and UN Women. They constitute an institutional mechanism for regular dialogue between the agency and the feminist and women's movement on key priority issues concerning gender equality and women's rights.

Currently, the Latin American and Caribbean Advisory Group has a broad representation, with respect to organizations and fields of action, as well as geographical representation. Group's members represent the four sub-regions: Mexico and Central America, the Caribbean, the Andean countries, and Brazil and the Southern Cone. They have proven experience and expertise in the areas of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Among them, there are women's rights defenders, scholars specialized in gender issues and endorsed by institutions of recognized prestige, indigenous leaders, champions of the rights of Afro-descendant women and well known activists defending the political, economic and reproductive and sexual rights of Latin American and Caribbean women.

On this occasion, four new members and four reserve candidates will be selected: one from the English-speaking Caribbean; one from Mexico and Central America; and two from the Andean countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela), to maintain geographical balance. Special consideration will be given to representatives of the following population groups: youth representatives, indigenous, Afro-descendant and rural women, women living with HIV, LGBTTTI, with an active participation in the women’s and/or feminist movement at the regional and global levels.
